Parker President Talks Chiropractic on CNN
Dr. Fabrizio Mancini, president of Parker College of Chiropractic, recently shared his insights regarding the benefits of chiropractic with Glenda Umaña, anchor of Nuestro Mundo, a daily news program that airs on CNN Español Live and is watched by an estimated 38 million viewers.
Dr. Mancini explained the fundamental premises supporting chiropractic - that the body is designed to heal itself, and that the body is controlled by the nervous system, brain, spinal cord and the nerves which connect to all cells in the body. "It is through treatment of the spine, and by encompassing the many factors that affect health, including fitness, nutrition, and self-awareness, that chiropractors help patients achieve relief from many conditions and ultimately maintain healthy lifestyles," said Dr. Mancini.
He also explained that more doctors of chiropractic - including more Hispanic DCs - will be required to meet the growing demand for chiropractic: "Not only is there a need for Hispanic chiropractors, but also for a continued addition of highly trained and skilled chiropractors to meet the growing demands for chiropractic care. ... We need to make sure our profession is ready to help meet their health needs."
Palmer Faculty Member Named Illinois DC of the Year
Dr. J. Richard Burns, DC, was named chiropractor of the year at the Illinois Prairie State Chiropractic Association's fall convention on Oct. 23. This is the second time the IPSCA has presented Dr. Burns with the award.
Dr. Burns currently serves on the board of directors of the IPSCA and the International Chiropractors Association. He is a 1973 graduate of Palmer College and joined the faculty shortly after graduating. Dr. Burns does double duty as a professor in Palmer's technique department and as a practitioner, operating a private practice in East Moline, Ill. His teaching specialties include spinal analysis and adjusting, and pediatric analysis and adjusting.

Many relevant diagnostic signs are not performed deliberately by the examiner or by the patient at the examiner’s direction. They are observed as the patient reacts to their condition. Fortin’s finger sign, Minor’s sign, and Vanzetti’s sign are three examples of this principle.
On Feb. 1, 2024, two more legislators – John R. Carter (R-Texas) and Robert “Bob” Good (R-Va.) – co-sponsored the Chiropractic Medicare Coverage Modernization Act of 2023, bringing the co-sponsor total to 155, two more than the total achieved over the entire two-year congressional cycle in which identical legislation last appeared (2021-22).
While working at the Lovelace Medical Center in Albuquerque, N.M., one of the primary care physicians stated that imaging every patient prior to receiving chiropractic was not medically necessary. It was at that point I reconsidered the need for the imaging of every patient to avoid malpractice.
