New Jersey Students at NYCC Raise $2,000

Chiropractic's current legal cause celebre began in 1993 when three lead chiropractic plaintiffs (Phillip Solla, Andrew Lacerenza, and Nicholas Napolitano) alleged that 12 New York HMOs were illegally denying their members chiropractic benefits (see 1/29/96 issue of DC).

The plaintiffs will know sometime this February whether or not the case will go to trial.

As with all legal disputations, money drives them forward. The Salla plaintiffs recently received generous contributions from the University of Bridgeport College of Chiropractic (UBCC) and students of the New York Chiropractic College (NYCC) who belong to the New Jersey Chiropractic Society Student Assoc.

In presenting the UBCC $5,000 donation, Dean Frank Zolli, DC, said it was a privilege for the College of Chiropractic to support the efforts of Drs. Solla, Lacerenza, and Napolitano in advancing the chiropractic cause. He added: "The results of this case will have significant impact on the future practice opportunities for all chiropractors. The college is pleased to help secure this future for our students and the next generation of chiropractors."

Members of NYCC's New Jersey Chiropractic Society Student Association (NJCSSA) were able to raised $2,000 from a charity basketball game. "This is Phase One of our plan: to educate the NYCC community," said Richard Kane, president of NJCSSA and a third trimester NYCC student. "Next we need to reach the doctors in the area and get them involved."
