Cleveland Chiropractic College of Los Angeles is recovering from the unexpected passing away of Dr. Laurine E. Crawford, a mainstay of the college since 1976, when she came to Los Angeles to assist Dr. C. S. Cleveland, Jr., in establishing this chiropractic college.

During her career she was dedicated to being a practitioner, faculty member, and promoter of chiropractic. Dr. Crawford started as a bookkeeper while still a student at Cleveland Chiropractic College-Kansas City, where she was director of finance from 1970 to 1976, as well as an instructor. This background was invaluable in the years she spent at Cleveland Chiropractic College-Los Angeles, helping Dr. C. S. Cleveland, Jr., who became the college president at that time.

As director of finance for many years, she had her finger on the pulse of college concerns. In addition, over the years Dr. Crawford supervised the records department and the clinic, using her knowledge to contribute to the running of the college. Most recently, she worked as executive assistant to the president.

Dr. Crawford will long be remembered for her Oklahoma style of hospitality, together with her honesty and friendliness, familiar to all who came to know her. She knew how to bring people together during festive and holiday seasons, to share special moments together, as one. Her wonderful cooking, along with her wit and humor, was a high point of those feasts -- especially her lemon pie that all enjoyed so much!

Her reputation for being one of the best adjusters for children of the staff and students over the years was backed by her loving and gentle way of helping them. Dr. Laurine E. Crawford knew all the intricacies of the full-spine adjusting technique, and she was ever ready to help anyone in pain. Though never married, she felt the students were her children and treated them as such -- strict when necessary but ready to listen and understand their problems.

Donations are being accepted for the Laurine E. Crawford Scholarship Program, a program which she conceived. Checks marked for the fund should be sent to:
