Palmer West President Dr. Peter Martin has announced that Kevin McCarthy, DC, DABCO, a member of the faculty for 10 years, has been appointed chief academic officer and dean of the college.
Dr. McCarthy has served as dean of college clinics since 1989. In 1992 he assumed direction of Palmer West's postgraduate and continuing education programs. He is a principal architect of the college's "mentor model" approach to patient care and intern education.
"It is significant to note that a clinician has been named dean of the college, Dr. Martin said. He noted that the appointment demonstrates the college's goal to "help students develop the appropriate clinical, business, and critical-thinking skills which will properly prepare them to practice with a commitment to high clinical standards and quality patient care."
A second generation chiropractor, Dr. McCarthy has maintained a private practice in Sunnyvale, California since 1983. He is associate editor of Topics in Clinical Chiropractic, and has presented several papers at numerous postgraduate seminars, primarily focusing on care of the geriatric patient.
Many relevant diagnostic signs are not performed deliberately by the examiner or by the patient at the examiner’s direction. They are observed as the patient reacts to their condition. Fortin’s finger sign, Minor’s sign, and Vanzetti’s sign are three examples of this principle.
Spearheaded by burgeoning scientific and clinical research literature, psychedelics have reached a level of media coverage and popular interest that has not been seen for over half a century. By “psychedelics,” we are referring to the unique class of substances that includes psilocybin (the active compound found in so-called “magic mushrooms”), LSD, dimethyltryptamine (DMT), ayahuasca, 5-MeO-DMT, and mescaline – each of which occurs in the natural world (except for LSD, which is a semi-synthetic compound).
While working at the Lovelace Medical Center in Albuquerque, N.M., one of the primary care physicians stated that imaging every patient prior to receiving chiropractic was not medically necessary. It was at that point I reconsidered the need for the imaging of every patient to avoid malpractice.
