Acupuncture Combats Allergies

A 42-year-old male doctor working in an insurance hospital had suffered from allergic rhinitis for 20 years. He complained of a constant runny nose with fits of sneezing several times a day. He had twice undergone nasal polypectomy, but without long-term benefit.

He had tried a variety of anti-allergic drugs over the years and still took these every day.

Treatment included three courses of auricular and ECIWO acupuncture, at 10 days per course. The ECIWO lung indicating point was found by finger pressure at the side of the second metacarpal; it was very tender. ECIWO lung points underwent bilateral electrical stimulation for 40 minutes daily. At the end of the three courses of acupuncture, the patients presenting complaints had almost disappeared: he had only a mildly runny nose in cold weather. A two-month follow-up found no complications or recurrences.
