Gonstead X-ray Marking System Needs an Adjustment?

A study of the projection principles and spinal biomechanics relative to the Gonstead x-ray marking system correlated data from literature with spinal biomechanical and x-ray projection principles drawn from graphical and mathematical methods.

The study finds a lack of an appropriate positioning constant, measurement constant and meaningful measurement variables. This supports the contention that the Gonstead x-ray marking system cannot reliably differentiate patient malpositioning, malformation and misalignment (subluxation) as projected on spinal radiographs, and is also inappropriate for analyzing a loss of positional integrity in the pelvis.
