Three New Board Members Join the Foundation for Chiropractic Progress

The Foundation for Chiropractic Progress (F4CP) recently announced the addition of William Meeker, DC, MPH, Lance Cohen, DC, and Greg Harris to the organization's Board of Directors.

The 17-member board features other prominent figures from the chiropractic profession including representatives of major chiropractic colleges, vendors, media organizations and other entities.

Dr. Meeker is currently the president of Palmer Chiropractic College - West and has more than 30 years of industry experience, including service as vice president of research at Palmer Chiropractic College (his alma mater) and director of the Palmer Center for Chiropractic Research (PCCR).

"It is an absolute pleasure to welcome Dr. Meeker to the F4CP Board of Directors," said Kent Greenawalt, foundation chairman and founder. "His wealth of knowledge surrounding academics, service and leadership will serve as a great advantage towards advancing the F4CP campaign and its impact on the future of chiropractic."

Dr. Cohen, a recent graduate of Cleveland Chiropractic College - Los Angeles, practices in La Jolla, Calif. His professional experience includes serving as national legislative chair for the Student American Chiropractic Association (SACA), as well as the North American regional representative for the World Congress of Chiropractic Students. He also completed a three-month internship at the National Naval Medical Hospital and subsequently was selected to complete a fellowship in integrative medicine – the second DC ever to do so.

"As a younger member of the chiropractic community, [Dr. Cohen's] unique perspective and connectivity is sure to strengthen the campaign's message, reach and progression," said Greenawalt.

Greg Harris is vice president of university advancement at Life University. While not a chiropractor, he specializes in alumni relations, fund-raising, postgraduate education and business development programs in his position at Life, making him an ideal candidate to help the foundation advance its public-relations campaign in support of chiropractic.

"Having the opportunity to serve on the F4CP Board is an incredible privilege," said Harris following his appointment." I am pleased to serve the profession in a way that promotes the truth and positive benefits of chiropractic care."

Foundation Recognizes Some of Its Key Supporters

In other Foundation for Chiropractic Progress news, the F4CP recently recognized three chiropractic vendors for their ongoing support of chiropractic: Performance Health, Biotics Research and Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College. Performance Health presented the foundation with a second $25,000 donation (applicable to 2012), while Biotics Research made an initial pledge of $25,000. The foundation recognized CMCC for supporting the F4CP with an annual pledge of $3,000 since 2009.

National Adds Internal Med Rotation to Master's Program

Students of National University of Health Sciences' master's program in advanced clinical practice now have the opportunity to complete an internal medicine rotation at the family practice clinic of Sean Rardin, MD. Students spend one week each with Dr. Rardin in his practice, dividing time between seeing patients with Dr. Rardin and compiling research / notes on two patient cases. The master's program requires that students compose narratives on several cases and provide evidence-based, integrative options for case management.

"Through the rotation, I'm able to see more internal disorder cases than I do in my chiropractic practice, giving me much broader first-hand experience," said Dr. Naveed Saeed, a 2001 graduate of National University currently enrolled in the master's program. "In addition, I get the chance to see how an MD would handle each case."

Added Dr. Rardin: "I usually start the week with each new MSACP student explaining that our main goal is to work together and learn from each other in order to take the best possible care of the patients we see. Our second priority is to give the student exposure to standard medical practice. Our third goal is to bring natural healing expertise to the patients. When I have the student here I have a wider repertoire to draw from in that respect because of the experience they can bring to the case."

Logan Focusing More on Its Health Clinics

Dr. Ralph Barrale, DC, vice president of chiropractic affairs at Logan College of Chiropractic / University Programs, will devote all his time to overseeing Logan's seven health centers, located in the metropolitan St. Louis, Mo., area. With the increased emphasis on the health centers, Dr. Barrale will relinquish his responsibilities for postgraduate programs, and the college will hire a new director of postgraduate and related professional education.

"For the past 15 years, Dr. Barrale has done an outstanding job of administering Logan's postgraduate and continuing-education programs," said Dr. George Goodman, Logan president. "His years of administrative experience will now be brought to bear more directly on improving our excellent health centers and making them even better."
