Life West Senior Receives First Annual Gerard W. Clum Leadership Award
Jason Stockton of Roseville, California, the inaugural recipient of the Gerard W. Clum Leadership Award.
Life Chiropractic College West has presented the first annual Dr. Gerard W. Clum Leadership Award to Jason Stockton, as the student who best exemplifies the leadership qualities and dedication that Dr. Clum has brought to the college and the chiropractic community.
The $5,000 award, established by Steven Galvin, president of the Education Fiance Group, is named in honor of current Life West president Gerard W. Clum, DC.
Jason, who has a BS degree in exercise physiology from the University of California at Davis, is a senior at Life West and maintains a 3.7 grade point average, making the Dean's List each of his 10 quarters. He has received numerous academic accolades, including the Anna Bell Karr Scholarship (while at UC Davis), the Chiropractic Excellence Award, and two Life West Student Achievement scholarship awards.
On top of his academic excellence, Jason is a student council representative, founder and current president of the Athletic Injuries Management Club, a member of the Life West Student Budget Committee, and a volunteer for the Breakfast Club, a community organization that serves free breakfast and gives clothing to needy children in the college's area.
When asked about the man for whom the award is named, Jason commented: "Dr. Clum is a visionary. Not only does he envision things, he acts on his visions to make them a reality. I have tried to emulate this behavior here at the college."
Many relevant diagnostic signs are not performed deliberately by the examiner or by the patient at the examiner’s direction. They are observed as the patient reacts to their condition. Fortin’s finger sign, Minor’s sign, and Vanzetti’s sign are three examples of this principle.
Spearheaded by burgeoning scientific and clinical research literature, psychedelics have reached a level of media coverage and popular interest that has not been seen for over half a century. By “psychedelics,” we are referring to the unique class of substances that includes psilocybin (the active compound found in so-called “magic mushrooms”), LSD, dimethyltryptamine (DMT), ayahuasca, 5-MeO-DMT, and mescaline – each of which occurs in the natural world (except for LSD, which is a semi-synthetic compound).
While working at the Lovelace Medical Center in Albuquerque, N.M., one of the primary care physicians stated that imaging every patient prior to receiving chiropractic was not medically necessary. It was at that point I reconsidered the need for the imaging of every patient to avoid malpractice.
