Serpent on the Staff -- a Hardcover Bargain

Barnes and Nobles is offering through its "Books by Mail" a sale price on the hard cover version of The Serpent on the Staff: The Unhealthy Politics of the AMA by Chicago Sun-Times reporters Howard Wolinsky and Tom Brune. The book, which details the inside workings of the AMA, got mass media attention when it was released in 1994. The book includes a chapter that chronicles the AMA's campaign against chiropractic.

Howard Wolinsky, medical writer at the Chicago Sun-Times since 1981, and Tom Brune, investigative reporter and editor at the Sun-Times since 1983, have written a book that is not only of interest to chiropractors, but to a broad spectrum of Americans.

Serpent on the Staff was the first independent investigative book about the medical establishment that was directed at the general public since journalist James Rorty wrote American Medicine Mobilized in 1939.

The $5.98 sale price for the hard cover is less than you would pay for the softcover version in the local bookstore. It's crucial reading. The catalog number is A134079. All you have to do is call 1-800-THE-BOOK.

DC Takes Chiropractic to Ecuador

Dr. John Mostrando (center) with the World Vision group in Ecuador.

Through World Vision, an organization which sponsors poor children, Dr. John Mostrando traveled to Las Rocas, a rural village in Ecuador, to bring chiropractic care to the small, impoverished community. With some help from interpreters, Dr. Mostrando treated a myriad of conditions ranging from ruptured disks, to a man who had been gored by a bull. When Dr. Mostrando traveled to treat patients in various villages, patients expressed their gratitude. One village chose to thank him by roasting the local delicacy: a guinea pig. Any chiropractor interested in contacting World Vision should call 1-800-777-5777.
